Get Snowed in This Winter With These Cozy Book Recommendations

It’s the winter season which means the snow is here and the fireplaces are roaring! While I will not be on the ski slopes this season due to an ongoing ACL recovery, I’ll be dipping my toes more into some fun reading while I have the place to myself with everyone else gone to ski. Want to jump into some nice cozy reading this season? Here are my recommendations for some books you’ll want to get snowed in with.

Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea
Rebecca Thorne

If you liked Legends and Lattes, this’ll be your jam too. Plus, the two main heroines are a couple, and flat-out adorable! The two of them are on a journey to drop their lives at court to open a little bookshop that serves tea far away from a narcissistic Queen they once served. This tale contains mishaps, cute couple moments, and a little more stakes than Legends and Lattes. But, it holds that same cozy little storytelling that you can get lost in.

A Little Too Familiar
Lish McBride

Going into more of the romance side of cozy, any fans of the forced proximity trope? A Little Too Familiar follows an apprentice animal mage (think veterinarian with magical powers) named Louise as she and her little family of friends find themselves with a new roommate, who happens to be a wolf-shifter. Yup, we got werewolves here, too. But, don’t worry, the insane (and disgusting) omegaverse trope is not off the rails here, it’s a little more palatable in this story. It’s more of a cozy read about found family with some stakes involved thanks to Declan’s family history. It is on the spicy side after a little bit of a slow burn, just warning you now. I had fun reading this book and there’s a second one in the series as well! I’ll be reading that one this winter as well.

A Sign of Affection
Suu Morishita

I had to throw in a manga series on this list. And one that I have been loving has been A Sign of Affection. This manga follows a deaf woman named Yuki. We follow her point of view as someone who is deaf in Japan. She ends up meeting and falling in love with a man from her university, Itsuomi, who travels the world a lot and wants to learn every little nuance about it. The two of them are ADORABLE. He’s so invested in knowing Yuki’s world, learning sign language for her, and just allowing Yuki to thrive as someone who never really got the attention she deserved. The story is a perfect combination of how different people interact with someone who is deaf. From wanting to learn sign language and explore the world around them like Itsuomi offers Yuki, to people who are more ableist and negative towards them like Yuki’s long-time friend Oshi is at times. Highly recommend you read this manga!

A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking
T. Kingfisher

A quick read, Mona is a bakery wizard who finds herself in the middle of political mysteries of her home as she is accused of murder and then hunted down along with many other wizards. Mona is just trying to bake her pastries, people! The story itself is an easy read, with no crazy theories or slow exposition to get through. If you want just something quick and a little fun, this book is for you. I would love to be a wizard specializing in baking! I would make so many pasteries!

Dream Harbor Series
Laurie Gilmore

Ok, yeah, this one is an easy grab from booktok. Maybe you’re sick and tired of hearing about it. But honestly, it’s a cute read. Again another romance series with a bit of spice so don’t read if you don’t like that sort of thing. But besides that, think of Gilmore girls, New England vibes, and just cute rom-com vibes, that’s this book series. I’ve read the first two and have the third on my TBR at the moment. Give it a shot if you want something cute and has some New England charm.

Wrap up

These are my book recommendations for this season. If you have any more you would like to add to this little list, or I can take for my TBR, please leave a comment and let me know! I would love some more book reccomendations for this season, I need something to do while I can’t ski yet!
