My Top Cozy Board Games to Sit by the Fire With Family This Holiday Season
TIS THE HOLIDAY SEASON! The weather is getting colder, which means more time to cuddle up on the couch and play some good old-fashioned board games! They will never get old, even as technology continues to advance with VR gaming, better consoles, and AI (insert my ears steaming in anger, but that’s a story for another day). As the year comes to an end and we start to gather with friends and family for the holidays, here are some fun board games we play that maybe you’ll enjoy this cozy winter season. Or, could be a great Christmas gift idea!

Root, A Game of Woodland Might and Right
For the Tabletop role-playing game fans in the audience, this one is good. ROOT may look very intimidating with all the moving pieces and each faction having different rule sets. Trust me, I was worried it was gonna be as intense as Settlers of Catan. Luckily, this game comes with a guide that’ll run you through the first two turns to make sure you can get a grasp of the game. The board itself is interchangeable, having either a spring/summer setting or a winter setting. Making it fit even better as a board game to fit the Christmas time. Also, there are expansions to play new maps or new factions that we’ll be diving into shortly when we play this more.

Kodama, The Tree Spirits
I LOVE THIS LITTLE GAME! Like, I am good at it and my fiance thinks I’m cheating (which I’m not if I may add!). You are helping these little spirits in building the best tree there is. Each time you build a consecutive line of elements, you gain that many points. It’s really simple and can be fun with the cards you can play at the end to gain the advantage. It’s a nice and easy family board game to have in your arsenal for something quick to learn.

Here To Slay
This we had sitting in our closet for a while before we finally played it on an improvised Thanksgiving day. Let me tell you, we are obsessed with it. It’s an easy card game featuring cute animal heroes with their abilities. The objective is to either defeat three boss monsters or collect one of each hero. This game can be played with two to four people, and it’s a simple 30-60 minute game that you can play multiple rounds easily.

Boss Monster
Do you want to build your dungeon for heroes to fall to? Do you want to be the Boss at the end instead of the hero? Well, here’s the game for you. Have fun with your friends as you compete to build the hardest dungeon for the heroes to fall to and gain points.
That’s all from me! But what about you?
These are my go-to's for some of the best family board games for the holiday season and will be bringing them with me when we all gather around the tree soon. Do you have some board games you love to bring out during the holidays with the family? Or have you just got some great suggestions for a board game for date night? Let me know in the comments!
